Volunteers are welcome to help with a number of CCA Community initiatives

The benefits of volunteering far exceed the job being done. Make new friends, develop a shared sense of contributing and enhancing the community in which you live and providing joy to others, fulfill high school community service hours and so much more.  The Cumberland Community Association depends entirely on volunteers to get things done within the community to make Cumberland a vibrant and attractive place to live.

The CCA Tent at the Cumberland Farmers Market 

• Join us in making a difference in our Community! We're looking for enthusiastic Volunteers to help sell coffee, water, and juice at our Cumberland Farmers Market. Your time will directly benefit our Cumberland Community Association initiatives. Great way to meet people in the community and make new friends!

•  When: Every Saturday from June to October
  Time: 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM  Choose a day or several.  Every volunteer hour helps.

Beautification

• Twice a year a brave group of people climb the lamp posts along parts of Old Montreal Road and Dunning Road to change the beautiful decorative banners from summer to winter, and vice versa. This activity is usually scheduled on the weekend when people are most available. Join the challenge and camaraderie with more than a few laughs along the way!

• In the Spring flower planters and flowerbeds (along Old Montreal Road and by the arena/community center) need to be planted in the spring, and then maintained (weeded and watered as necessary) throughout the summer and fall. This requires a few couple of hours per week and with more help we could broadened our summer beautification to include other areas within the community. If you love gardening or would like to learn more about it this is a great place to start.

Social

• The CCA organizes a number of social activities over the course of the year that attract significant numbers of participants from the Community. Assisting with Canada Day at the Mosque, Scarecrow Festival, etc.   Let us know if you want to partcipate.

City Relations

• There are a number of areas in which the CCA has to work with/respond to city proposals (eg traffic volumes and signalization on Highway 174, Transportation Master Plans, Local Infrastructure improvements, bringing more OCTranspo services to the Village to connect with the LRT, the development in the expanded Urban Area east of Trim Road, Grant applications with the City, Provincial, Federal).  Such issues may involve meeting with city officials, or locally to develop a community view of the issue.

Outdoor Rink

• Behind the arena/community center on Dunning Road there is an outdoor rink on which the CCA has created and maintained the ice surface and provided supervised skating time sufficient to receive a grant from the city.  Due to the magnitude of this job we use part of the grant to reward those who work significantly in setting up and maintaining the ice, and/or organizing the supervision of the skating.

Wilsondale Trails

• The Wilsondale Trails are wholly developed and maintained by the Cumberland Community Association. They are available for use both summer and winter for community members. In summer the trails are clipped and the grass is mowed and trail maintenance occurs including construction of boardwalks and bridges. In winter 5 kms of cross country ski tracks are set and a snowshoe path is created.
