Cumberland Village Community Association

Who we are

We represent the interests of Cumberland residents in the historic village and the surrounding area -- east to Canaan Road, west to Cardinal Creek, north to the Ottawa River, and south to French Hill Road.

Our mandate is to continually improve our quality of life and sense of community, while protecting the rural character and heritage of Cumberland. We monitor city-wide issues such as planning, taxation and residential development. We also work closely with other associations to represent the concerns of rural residents.

Membership is open to all Cumberland residents. Joining the community association gives residents a voice and a vote on local issues. Members may serve on the Board of Directors or on a number of committees. Younger residents also have many opportunities to volunteer in the community.

Comments

I see that under minutes the last ones are from April. Is there none since then? Thanks
I am very happy to see a cummunity association in Cumberland. One thing that really concerns me and some other families in the area is the lack of things for our children in this area. It seemed like a nice idea to raise our kids in the country but there is very little within the community for our kids to do. We have to drive them to Orleans for any activities and there are many families in our area (Quigley Hill) who have left for this reason. I would love to see something starting up for families. I have taken my kids to the City of Ottawa events in the park during the summer and there are no kids around? Where is everybody?
Thank you for your comments and suggestions. This is a great idea. We used to have a play group for parents with young children, but unfortunately, due to lack of volunteers to take this on, this popular program ended recently. You don't mention how old your children are or the types of things you would like to see in Cumberland. Would you be willing to volunteer some time to give us some suggestions and perhaps work with other volunteers and parents to make them happen? We may be able to get some funding from the city for programming -- we just need some ideas and maybe some volunteers. We have a good community centre that is not utilized very much. I look forward to hearing from you and working with you to make Cumberland a more family-friendly community. all the best, Rebecca Dufton, president (613) 833-0276
