Urban Boundary Expansion - proposed Cardinal Village development in Cumberland

Proposed suburban development for Cumberland

As part of the urban boundary expansion, Tamarack has filed a preliminary proposal for "Cardinal Village" a new housing development of approximately 4,800 units for an estimated 13,000 new residents on the western edge of Cumberland.

Tamarack currently owns 180 hectares of the 225 hectare/556 acre parcel. The land borders on Regional Road 174 just past Trim Road, on both sides of Old Montreal Road to Ted Kelly Lane.

Housing density is an estimated 34 units per hectare, with a mix of 55% singles, 10% apartment buildings, and 35% multi-density housing (semi-detached, townhouses).

A large format commercial building is proposed for 19 hectares along Regional Road 174, with a new traffic light.

This project will include public consultations and a community design plan.  Since several cases are still before the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB), none of the proposed developments under the Official Plan will move forward until hearings are completed in the fall of 2012.
